DESCRIPTION:
French, Guilmet, (mov't by Japy Freres), STEAM HAMMER clock from the French Industrial series designed by Guilmet, 8-day time/strike, the vertical impact "hammer "serving as the pendulum after power has been transferred 9 times, "as found" c1880
CONDITION:
This clock is in need of restoration. All the brass work needs polishing; hands have a light coat of rust. A lever and connecting rod on the side to the top steam valve is missing. One of the nuts on the lower right side next to the pendulum is missing. The black marble base is chipped on the edges and corners. The back dust cover for the mov't is made from a piece of aluminum (should be brass). The bell standard and bell are missing from the movement. Movement needs serious cleaning, is signed with Guilmet mark (GLT-Paris) and #462. For reference, see Derek Roberts' book titled Mystery, Novelty & Fantasy Clocks, page 260, figures 22-18 and 22-19.
